Psychotherapy and Counseling For Children and Families
I am focused on psychotherapy and counseling with children and families as well as adolescents and adults working on issues related to ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Behavioral Issues, Divorce, Trauma and PTSD, Anger Management, Asperger's, Grief and Loss, Oppositional Defiance, Adoption, Family Conflict, Academic Underachievement, Sexual, Emotional, Physical Abuse, Video Games and Internet Addiction.
I specialize in children and family therapy utilizing one of the following therapeutic approaches:
In my practice, I recognize it might be hard for some children to make sense of what they feel and experience since their physical, cognitive, and emotional development is still in progress. Their limited language skills stop them from talking about areas that bother them. Therefore it is difficult for the parents or caregivers to determine what their children need. Acting out is the easiest way of expression for a child. Crying, clinging, aggression, anger, anxiety, withdrawing, temper tantrums, lack of cooperation are the common behaviors that may cause parents and caregivers to feel tired, discouraged and helpless.
As a Play Therapist, I am a mental health clinician who is trained to speak and understand child’s language. I am able to notice their expressions and figure out their needs and challenges. In the accepting atmosphere of the playroom and play therapy process, children are able to begin the search of self and discover the ability to cope with fears, struggles, uncertainties and changes in a meaningful way in order to thrive.
I engage parents in the therapeutic process and help them enhance their ability to understand and connect with their children in order to build balanced atmosphere among family members and to enjoy parenting more.
